A wandering bird's-eye overview of most things even vaguely related to travel, and an opportunity for writers, artists and photographers to contribute the historical, the hysterical, the quirky and quixotic... anything with heart.

Sunset spires
Sunset spires

Destination = Bagan Plains, Myanmar

With our last night, it's another sunset skyline of spires, heat and haze: 3000 temples and pagodas built between 11th and 13th century, some say deserted by a Myanmar king.

But around many are the troupes of artisans, traders and mild-mannered touts; inside - the worshipped, the worshippers and monks, crowds of the curious and the seeking.

We've wandered these baking plains with a battered map, from one group of soaring spires to another, over 5-days, lost but not lost; on electric bikes across hot asphalt and sand tracks to the more isolated and lonely, an escape from the  heat through darkened doorways to hallowed halls and walls, with the memories and shadows of those from before.

    Sounds lovely to be in Myanmar in a “sunset skyline of spires.” Vyacheslav’s photograph is absolutely stunning!

      Thanks Madilyn. Yes, an exotic part of the world but very poor.
      Vyacheslav captured the spirit of Bagan beautifully.

    "We've wandered these baking plains with a battered map." Sounds like the start of a good book! Perfect images and amazing photo.
